activists and workers in environmentally sensitive industries. \u00a0For example, in\u00a0Martinez California, we\u2019ve conducted multiple workshops and train-the-trainer programs for oil workers, 663px) 100vw, 663px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Environmental Strategy for Unions<\/strong>: \u00a0We develop policy and educational programs that bring workers into the process of forming climate change\u00a0policies. \u00a0Our primary partnerships are with United Steelworkers District 12 on the West Coast (with environmental programs focusing in California, Washington and Oregon) and United Steelworkers District 4 on the East Coast (with environmental programs focusing on New Jersey and New York).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Just Transition<\/strong>: \u00a0The Labor Institute\u00a0pioneered the concept of\u00a0\u201c Just Transition\u201d for workers and\u00a0communities\u00a0in partnership with the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers union, now part of the United Steelworkers. \u00a0It flows from the ideas and\u00a0strategies of longtime OCAW leader Tony Mazzocchi and the term was coined by Labor Institute\u00a0Executive\u00a0Director Les Leopold and Brian Kohler, a Canadian labor leader representing workers in toxic\u00a0manufacturing facilities. \u00a0Labor\u00a0Institute Principal Jim Young now leads this work and has helped develop statewide\u00a0policies now\u00a0being considered in Washington, Oregon and New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-427 alignleft\" (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cancer Free Economy Network<\/strong>:\u00a0 The Labor Institute is a lead partner in this growing collaborative of community, labor, health,\u00a0medical, government, philanthropic and business organizations seeking to help remove cancer causing chemicals from production and use and\u00a0promote large-scale investment in safer alternatives. \u00a0We design and pilot educational programs that are shared throughout the\u00a0network \u2013 and work with grassroots organizations to spread the training to their members. \u00a0We lead a \u201cBuilding Power\u201d working group\u00a0within the network that is focused on broadening the base of support for safer alternatives, and integrating this work with our\u00a0economics and
